The Department of Justice is implementing a Scheme for Action and Studies on Judicial Reforms. Under this scheme the Ministry has sanctioned a research project to DAKSH. Over the last seven years we have been aiming to create inclusive, transparent, self-correcting mechanisms that encourage accountability in all branches of the government. From past few years, our particular focus of study has been on judiciary. In order to strengthen our vision we have undertaken the project titled, -Comparative Analysis of Causes for Pendency in Six High Courts and Six District Courts in India- commissioned by the Ministry of Law. As a part of this project we will be collecting data from 12 courts, six of which are High Courts and the other six are district courts. From each of these courts we intend to study 500 cases.
